Norton County has a new emergency notification system called CivicReady This Interactive Emergency Preparedness and Notification Solution is a great tool that will allow Norton County to communicate with citizens quickly and efficiently before, during and after an emergency. Citizens can be reached through the website, email, SMS, voice calls and social media platforms. FEMA-sourced emergency preparedness content is easily accessible to citizens to keep our community informed in the event of an emergency. Please log-on to the website now, http://ks-nortoncounty.civicready.com/, and enter your contact information along with your specific notification preferences.

The Norton County Hospital is required to update their 2012 Community Health Needs Assessment(CHNA). (Note: This assessment and implementation plan is required for all 501(c)(3) hospitals to meet IRS regulations at least once every three years).  To accomplish this work, a short online community feedback survey has been developed – click here for the survey. All Norton County CHNA Round #2 community feedback is due by Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Note: A short community CHNA Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 from 4:30 – 5:45 pm at Norton County Hospital Conference Room in the basement of the hospital. All community members are invited to attend.

The 7th Annual Norton County Horse Council BBQ & BOOGIE will be held Saturday, March 28th from 6pm to midnight at the Norton Eagle’s Club. Click here for a flyer with all the details of the event.

Norton’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 4th on the lawn of the Norton County Courthouse. The schedule follows:  1:00 – 1:30 Photos with the Easter Bunny (photos will be available by 2pm), 1:15 – 1:45 Scavanger Hunt for grades 4-6, 2:00 Easter Egg Hunt for infants through 3rd graders.

The Post Rock Opportunities Foundation and Kansas Originals Market & Gallery are proud to announce the2015 Kansas Originals Photo Show. This show will be held at Kansas Originals Market & Gallery near Wilson, Kansas, from Saturday, May 9, 2015 to Saturday, June 13, 2015. Kansas Originals Market & Gallery is located just north in I-70, Exit 206, along Kansas Highway 232, the Post Rock Scenic Byway. The opening reception will be on May 9th and close on June 13th. The Kansas Small Business Development Center at Fort Hays State University recently launched a freeonline business planning tool. The “Business Plan Tool” is an impressive online resource to assist individuals in developing a business plan as they prepare to start a business, expand a business, apply for financing, prepare to sell their business, or to redefine their organization and company goals. Norton Public Library events for the week of March 30th    

Monday at the Movies for adults will be held March 30, 1:30 pm. The featured movie is “And So It Goes,” starring Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. Refreshments will be served.

Chess Club for kids will be held on Monday, March 23, 4:00 – 5:00 pm at the library. An after school snack will be provided.

“Mother Goose Moments,” an interactive story-time for babies through age 2, will be held at the library on Tuesday, March 31st at 10:30 am. Bring your little ones for musical games, stories, and snacks.

Preschool Story-time will be held at the library on Thursday, April 2nd at 10:30 am. Come join us forEaster fun with snacks, stories, songs, games, and a craft.

Special Events for National Library Week, April 13-18

Angela Bates, executive director and past president of the Nicodemus Historical Society, will be presenting a special program, “The Nicodemus Connection to a Vice President,” Monday evening, April 13th, at 7:00 pm, in the Norton Public Library Community Room.

Warren Dunlap, Christian western fiction author from Hendley, Nebraska, will be at the Norton Public Library for a presentation and book signing on Thursday, April 16th, at 7:00 pm.

The public is invited to attend both sessions.

Bricks are still available for Norton Veteran’s Memorial:  The Norton Veteran’s Memorial, located on west Highway 36 in Water Tower Park, was dedicated in May, 2012. A granite memorial stone was erected and the memorial includes paving bricks etched with veteran’s names, military branch and years of service.
